How's The Dark?

"Clothes make the man. Naked people have little or no influence on society." Mark Twain

We just went through the edge of hurricane Irene.  And, like the quote above, if you're naked in preparation, you'll have little influence on your circumstances.  I didn't go overboard, but I was reasonably well prepared.  I knew I wasn't going to have to worry about flooding.  And, with an apartment above me, it wasn't likely that a tree would be coming into the space I live in.  With that in mind, here are a few things I thought might help for the next time there's a similar emergency, with power outages.

Who Do I Learn From?

I was thinking some more about the previous post.  In particular, the paragraph about failure.  I mentioned that many people like to learn from those who are successful.  Because they'll learn how things are done properly.  There's truth in that, but there's also fallacy.  There are several ways you can get to a successful outcome:

A Gem of Great Price?

Hot gold on lime green,
The leaves turn a sandy brown.
Oh, desolate heat!

That was an award winning haiku I wrote almost 50 years ago.  There were a few forays into various forms of writing since then, but I never created the “great American novel” that I thought I had in me.  And lots of gaps till I started Bill's Spiritual Musings.  Even then, there was one more gap.  But all of those were just steps in a writer’s journey.  And food for thought.

What's Your Mindset?

I was thinking about our country's financial mess.  And the congress couldn't come to a mutually agreeable solution.  It struck me that I'd written about that very thing in discussing the problems with Christians having doctrinal differences.  Those posts are Why Would You Say That? Part 1 and Why Would You Say That? Part 2.  In brief,  it begins with everyone's thought process starts with an original premise.  That premise directs the train of thought, leaving one possible outcome, which makes the conclusion predictable.  There's a twofold problem in communication because of that.

Well,…This Is The Place

Some of you are familiar with my other blog, Bill's Spiritual Musings.  I’ve been having a truly awesome time hearing from God and sharing it online.  But here’s the thing.  There have been times when I wanted to talk about techie stuff separate from how it helps ministry, or about blogging., or the latest news, or politics.  Or just celebrating someone doing things “just right”.  So…this is the place.

This one’s going to be brief.  One of the people I follow on Twitter asked about blogging burnout.  Here, basically, is my response.

When I started the blog, I had no idea of professionalism and consistency.  And it showed.  There was a point when I thought I had writer's block and just couldn't come up with anything for the blog.  For a year and a half!

A new beginning

This actually began as a test site for theming Bill's Spiritual Musings (my original blog).  That really didn't take very long. <grin>  And I really wanted a place to cover other things -- writing and blogging, techie subjects, music.  Kind of all over the rest of the topical spectrum.  So, here's Bill's Other Stuff.  No promises about how frequently there'll be new posts.  But it ought to be an interesting journey.
